April 3, 1998 - LUKOIL President Vagit Alekperov met in Moscow yesterday with students of the State Oil and Gas Academy, the leading Russian school training oil and gas engineers.
He told them of the company's performance, the situation in the oil industry and the steps the company and the Russian government are taking to counter the impact of the falling oil prices on the world markets on Russian oil companies.
Alekperov said he was greatly interested in cooperating with the academy in the training of skilled personnel.
At the moment 160 company staff are undergoing training in the academy. Fifteen academy graduates were hired by LUKOIL last year and eleven will be hired in 1998. LUKOIL has made its needs in academy graduates known until the year 2001.
The President of LUKOIL pointed out that the company needs engineers and managers with a good command of foreign languages, especially English, for its foreign projects and projects in Russia carried out jointly with foreign oil companies.
"The Soviet and then Russian oil engineers have always been known for their high skills. The State Oil and Gas Academy are making an invaluable contribution to their training. This is why we welcome its graduates to LUKOIL," Vagit Alekperov said.
