May 13, 1997 - Vagit Alekperov, the president of the joint-stock company LUKOIL, and Valery Nosov, the director-general of the Moscow JSC ZIL car works, have signed an agreement on cooperation between the two companies.
Under the reached agreement, ZIL, in line with LUKOIL's technical requirements, will develop and manufacture a series of technological and special vehicles for the oil and oil-refining industries. LUKOIL has been given the right to act as a commercial intermediary in selling ZIL trucks in the Tyumen region and, subsequently in other regions, by agreement with ZIL.
ZIL will also place its technical maintenance centers at LUKOIL's disposal for locating gas-filling stations. The newly-built ZIL trucks will be filled with LUKOIL-manufactured fuel and lubricants.
The LUKOIL-manufactured fuel and lubricants will be promoted through the ZIL dealer network in Russia and abroad. LUKOIL, in turn, will develop new economical types of fuel and lubricants to be used in manufacturing and operating ZIL trucks.
Vagit Alekperov said during the signing ceremony that this event is a logical result of revived cooperation between Russia's largest companies. In this case LUKOIL and automobile makers. Earlier, LUKOIL signed similar agreements with the Kamaz and Avtovas joint-stock companies.
