COMSTAR sets upon sales of ColibriComstar

December 24, 2009, Moscow. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, announces that it has set upon sales of ColibriComstar netbooks in the COMSTAR retail chain in Moscow. Starting from December 25, 2009, ColibriComstar that uses a range of up-to-date wireless broadband technologies of multiple standards (WiMAX, 3G, HSDPA/GPRS/EDGE and Wi-Fi) will be available in COMSTAR (STREAM) Sales & Service offices.* First sales will be launched in the COMSTAR-UTS principal showroom located at Novy Arbat street, 2, following which ColibriComstar will be offered for sale in other offices of the company. Further on, ColibriComstar netbooks are planned to be sold in showrooms of the MTS retail chain.

ColibriComstar may also be bought on the website of the COMSTAR-WiMAX service using an online application. Having processed the application received, company representatives will get in touch with a customer and deliver the COMSTAR netbook at a convenient time.

“We are setting upon sales of a product which is unique for Russia – a netbook with multiple embedded mobile wireless technologies. It is quite symbolic that the sales have commenced on the New Year eve: this is a nice idea for a present to our users’ friends or relatives, as they will be able to stay on-line throughout the coming year. This is possible due to an annual subscription to the WiMAX service provided with the netbooks without traffic limitations. Our subscribers will also be able to enjoy access to the MTS network at the Onliner rate subject to special conditions,” Alexander Gorbunov, COMSTAR-UTS Vice-President for Strategy and Development, says.

Besides, COMSTAR-UTS has enhanced the line of external devices to be connected to its WiMAX network. New BM325 USB modems by Huawej are now on sale; they have a built-in flash memory that stores all the software required to work in the COMSTAR WiMAX network. This allows users to get down to Internet surfing quickly and easily: the software is automatically installed when the user gets connected to the PC for the first time. BM325 is compatible with Windows 7.

The new modem may be purchased both with COMSTAR-WiMAX subscription and in addition to an available contract. Recall, that thanks to changes to the network authorization system, subscribers may use multiple devices under the same contract with COMSTAR-UTS.
