RUSAL appoints new managing directors at rolling facilities

Moscow, 26 May 2003 – RUSAL, the world’s second largest producer of primary aluminium announced today that Adolf Zaltsman, Managing Director of Belaya Kalitva Metallurgical Plant (BKMPO), has been appointed as a Managing Director of Samara Metallurgical Plant (SMZ). Succeeding Mr.Zaltsman as Managing Director of BKMPO is Mikhail Spichak, former General Director of Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Plant.
Adolf Zaltsman’s appointment at SMZ, a major Russian producer and exporter of aluminium semi-products, follows his nearly two-year term at BKMPO where he was responsible for raising  production volumes and improving financial performance.
Mikhail Spichak’s 25 years experience in the metal industry, in introducing new technologies as well as in management of extrusion production, will help BKMPO to complete modernization and to switch to the use of higher-performance technologies and equipment.
Mikhail Fyodorov, former Managing Director of SMZ, was nominated Chairman of the Board of BKMPO. In this position he will be focused on strategic tasks connected with plant modernization.
Biographical information
Adolf Zaltsman was born on 26 April 1953 in Tashagol, Kemerovo region. He graduated from Siberian Metallurgical Institute named after Ordzhonikidze in 1978. He worked at the Sayansk Aluminium Smelter from 1986 to 1999, advancing through the ranks to the post of Commercial Director. In 1999 Mr. Zaltsman was appointed General Director at Sayansk Foil Mill. Mr. Zaltsman was named General Director and Managing Director of BKMPO in October 2001.

Mikhail Spichak was born on 27 September 1954. In 1997 he graduated from Kransoyarsk Non-Ferrous Metallurgical Institute. From 1977 to 2001 he worked at the Kransoyarsk Metallurgical Plant, rising through the ranks to become, successively, foreman, chief foreman, head of department, deputy chief of production workshop, chief engineer, and finally in 2001, General Director. He was a winner of a major government prize in science and technology. In 2002 he was awarded the title ‘Honored Metallurgist of the Russian Federation’. 

Mikhail Fyodorov was born on 14 November 1948 in Rasskazovo, Tambov region. He graduated from Kuibyshev Avaiation Institute in 1971. From 1971 to 1997 he worked at the Kuibyshev (now Samara) Metallurgical Plant. From 1997 to 1998 Mr. Fyodorov was General Director of Rostar. Under his direction the plant’s construction was finished. In 1998 Mr. Fyodorov was named Managing Director of the Samara Metallurgical Plant
