Today, a meeting between Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Alexey Miller and Prime-Minister of Tadjikistan Akil Akilov took place at the Gazprom Headquarters. The parties agreed to complete a 25 year agreement on cooperation in the gas sector.
The agreement calls for cooperation in the following core businesses:
- Gas exploration, development and operation of natural gas fields in the Republic of Tadjikistan (including signing a PSA);
- Gas field construction, well work-over, and commissioning of idle well stock;
- Construction, modernization and operation of pipelines and other facilities of the gas infrastructure; maintenance of gas facilities
- Natural gas processing, transportation and marketing in the frames of joint projects.
Reference:
Estimated hypothetical gas reserves in Tadjikistan exceed 1 trln m3. However, so far, only negligible part of the reserves has actually been explored; current gas production does not meet the internal demand today covered predominantly through gas import. Gas produced at the domestic fields (24 mln m3 in 2002) is consumed in southern regions of the Republic. Natural gas is delivered to northern Tadjikistan from Uzbekistan (485 mln m3 in 2002).
