MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

February 22, 2007

N.I. Serebryanikov, a member of the Governing Board of OAO Mosenergo and head of the Moscow Power Network from 1983 to 2000, passed away on February 22

Nestor Ivanovich Serebryanikov, a leading Russian power engineer, member of the Governing Board of OAO Mosenergo, and head of the Moscow Power Network from 1983 to 2000, passed away on February 22 at the age of 79.

The name of Nestor Ivanovich Serebryanikov is an epoch in the history of the Russian power industry. His entire career was connected with Mosenergo, the country’s leading power network. It was here that he showed his high professionalism, engineering talent, outstanding organizational abilities, and his motivation to achieve the necessary results in introducing up-to-date technologies.

His industry career began at the Shchekinskaya GRES, where 200 MV power-generating units were put into operation and developed. Between 1953 and 1966, Nestor Ivanovich rose from engineer to deputy chief engineer of the power plant. He worked as deputy chief engineer in 1966, and then as chief engineer of the Kashirskaya GRES starting in 1967, where 300-MW power-generating units were developed under his leadership.

In 1970, N.I. Serebryanikov became chief engineer, and then in 1983, Managing Director and then General Director of Mosenergo. During this time, under his technical guidance, unique 250-MW cogeneration units were put into operation and developed, and 110–120-kV deep-infeed substations with fundamentally new gas-insulated equipment. Momentous events include construction and commissioning of the Zagorsk hydroelectric pumped-storage power plant, the installation of PGU-100 and 150 MW power-generating units at GRES-3, construction of the environmentally safe Severnaya TETs in Mytishchi, and the commissioning of a new gas-turbine cogeneration plant in Elektrostal. Rapdi development of Moscow-area heat and power networks took place at the same time. Under the leadership of N.I. Serebryanikov, the Moscow power network was transformed into the world’s largest cogeneration system.

With the direct involvement of N.I. Serebryanikov, Mosenergo became a corporation. It was the first power company to place its securities on international stock markets, and it became one of the «blue chips» of the Russian securities market.

Nestor Ivanovich had great authority not only at Mosenergo and the RAO UES of Russia system. He received high praise from academic power engineers and managers and specialists of leading engineering companies both in Russia and abroad. It is with full justification that we can speak of the creating of the Serebryanikov school of engineering.

For his high achievements, N.I. Serebryanikov was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the October Revolution, People’s Friendship, «For Service to the Fatherland» IV degree, and medals. His service record included a citation from the President of Russia and numerous citations from the Moscow Government and the Administration of Moscow Region. He was awarded the honorary title of «Honored Power Engineer of the RSFSR» and commemorative badges from the power industry.

He was a two-time winner of state prizes, Doctor of Engineering, Professor, and Academician of the Academy of Electrotechnical Sciences. N.I. Serebryanikov left an indelible mark in the domestic power industry.

The bright memory of Nestor Ivanovich will forever remain in our hearts.

We offer our sincere condolences to the family and relatives.

The staff of OAO Mosenergo.
