In accordance with its new Development Strategy until the year 2005 Sberbank has commenced the optimization of the existing regional banks' network. This process is based primarily on the principles of gradual changes and protection of clients interests.

It is supposed that the number of the regional banks of Sberbank will be reduced to 18. At the same time Sberbank retains the centralized management system of regional banks and the integrated risk management system.

The merger of regional banks will allow to improve their investment potential, to ensure better correspondence between their financial capabilities and the economical potential of the region, to improve the quality of services provided for clients and to decrease administrative costs.

As a result of the merger the regional banks will be able to participate in more significant investment projects and programmes of economical development in their respective regions.

The reorganization of Bank's network is being carried out in the way to preserve Bank's financial relations with regions and existing system of tax payments to federal and local budgets.

The management and coordination of united regional banks' activities will be carried out by Sberbank's Head Office.
