Tariff hikes for local residential subscribers

On September local tariff rates are slated to go up for residential subscribers, but will still not reach the break even point in terms of cost.  In accordance with Anti-Monopoly Ministry Resolution # 602 dated August 12, 2002, effective September 1 new tariffs will be introduced for household subscribers of OJSC Udmurt Telecom for local telephone services.  The base monthly subscriber fee has been raised by 20 percent, but this is not enough to allow the company to cover its residential costs.  Based on calculations made by economists at OJSC Udmurt Telecom the monthly maintenance cost per line, regardless of the form of corporate ownership, stands at Rub 130.  Subscriber fees and installation charges are set to go up from the beginning of autumn at OJSC Udmurt Telecom.  The base installation charge will now be Rub 500 more expensive than it was before September 1st and will now cost city residents and inhabitants of regional areas Rub 4,000 for hook-up to an analogue telephone exchange and Rub 5,000 for hook-up to a digital telephone exchange. Rural subscribers will pay Rub 3,500 or Rub 4,500 for the above installation services, considering the discounts currently in effect.
