The 8^th solemn award ceremony for the Russian National Olympus prize took place on November 18, 2003, in the Official Audience Room of the Russian President in the NationalKremlinPalace. ValeryYashinwasthewinnerinthenomination“Transport. Construction. Communication”, being recognized with the award of a Personal Medal “For Honor and Valor” and a Golden Olympus statuette. This was a way for the jury, traditionally consisting of Russia’s top executive and legislative officials, members of the business elite, outstanding cultural and sports figures, world-wide-known scientists, to pay homage to the personal contribution that the head of the largest Russian telecommunications holding company has made to the development of the domestic telecom sector and the formation of Russia’s new economy.

The Russian National OlympusPrize is the Principal All-Russian Public award and the only prize that reflects outstanding achievements in all fields of activity in  Russian society.

The Prize was instituted by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian government, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the All-Russian Exposition Center, and the Third Millennium Social Development Fund.

The Principal All-Russian Public Prize “Russian National Olympus” is designed to recognize all the best creative things in Russia’s life. The prize is awarded to corporations, companies, enterprises, and establishments from all spheres of the country’s economic and social existence, as well as distinguished Russian citizens who won nationwide respect and affection.

The Russian National OlympusPrize has no analogues either in Russiaor throughout the world in terms of scope and breadth, close attention of all federal, entrepreneurial, and social structures, and influences on the  life of the nation.
