AO Mosenergo produced 65.5 billion kWh in 1999 and 68.9 billion kWh in 2000. This allowed Mosenergo to fully satisfy Moscow and Moscow region population's demand for heat and electricity. In 1999 Mosenergo provided its customers with 49.09 billion kWh, and in 2000-51.2 billion kWh.
Moreover, last year AO Mosenergo began to export electric power to neighboring regions. The rise in production is, in many respects, due to new nvestment in the company's power supply system development, which is completely in accordance with the Moscow Region Power Supply System Development Program. The program covers the period till 2010 and was worked out with the assistance of Moscow and the Moscow region authorities. To carry out its projects the company has been actively cooperating with foreign companies and banks. For example, EBRD granted a $50 million loan to complete construction of the Zagorsk storage power plant, or Zagorsk GAES. Moreover, the bank plans to disburse a $100 million loan to construct the second stage of the Zagorsk GAES.
In 2000 AO Mosenergo invested more than six billion rubles to modernize its production facilities. "Russian factories are ready to provide Mosenergo with excellent modern technologies which will enable us to increase energy-generating units efficiency factor to 90 percent," said Alexander Remezov, managing director of the Moscow utility. In 2001 AO Mosenergo plans to increase electric power production to 71.2 billion kWh.
