As reported for nine months of 2014, power losses in the electrical networks of Penzaenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC reduced by 0.31% or 10 million kWh as compared to the same period last year. Inspections to identify electricity thefts and unauthorized power consumption are carried out as part of measures aimed to reduce non-technical power losses. Certain “problem” locations require engagement of law enforcement officers. In the current period, specialists of the branch detected 2,187 instances of unaccounted power usage totaling to 5,104 thousand kWh and implemented a wide range of activities to prevent unaccounted and non-contracted power consumption, including issuance of the relevant reports, notifications and instructions and submission of claims to courts. Once again, specialists of Penzaenergo remind that unauthorized electricity consumption may result in irregularities in operation of the electrical installations, thus posing a threat to life and causing adverse health effects. Electricity theft of electricity is a crime that undermines economic growth and stability of power systems of the region.
