The Gazprom Headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and Ahmed Nazif, Prime Minister of Egypt.

The parties discussed the key cooperation directions between Gazprom and Egypt in the oil and gas sector.

Special emphasis was placed on liquefied natural gas projects, as well as possibilities for investing into the national gas sector and cooperating in the gas industry management.

Additionally, the meeting discussed the practicability of arranging swap operations.

Alexey Miller and Ahmed Nazif confirmed their interest in holding the dialogue within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, as well as the relevancy for creating a permanent structure on its platform.

The parties also confirmed their interest in developing mutually beneficial long-term partnership.

Background:

Egypt’s proven natural gas reserves account for 2.06 tcm. The length of national gas pipelines exceeds 16 thousand km.

At the moment Egyptian gas is exported both as pipeline gas and LNG. Egypt is the world’s eighth largest LNG exporter.

Egypt’s Government regulates the energy sector via the state run Organization for Energy Planning (OEP), Oil Ministry, and Energy Ministry. Separate areas of the energy sector are governed by state owned EGPC (Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation) and EGAS (Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company).
