On 16 September “Fortum Engineering” (Fortum Engineering Ltd, Finland) and the Power Machines Group signed the contract for upgrading of the hydro power plant “Krangede” in Sweden. The total costs of the work amounts to 1 million EURO. The customer of the project - the company “Fortum Generation Ab” – formally “Birka Kraft”- is the biggest power producing company in Sweden.
According to the contract the JSC “Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod” and the JSC “Electrosila” are to manufacture and supply within a year a new runner and a bearing for a water turbine, turbine seal and a stator for the hydro generator, as well as supervise installation of the new equipment and its adjustment. Delivery of the equipment is to take place in August 2003; the unit itself will be put into commission after installation works in the 4th quarter of 2003.
Within 2000 – 2003 the JSC “Electrosila” according to the order of Fortum Engineering manufactured and installed three hydro generators the HPP “Yulhama”. The first power generating unit was put into operation in August this year. Next year Fortum Engineering is planning to modernise two other hydro electric plants, situated on the same river Oyluoki in Finland – the HPP “Emma” and the HPP “Aittokoski”. As stated in the signed contracts JSC “Electrosila” will manufacture and deliver two generators for them.
Fortum Engineering has been co-operating with the enterprises of the Power Machines Group since 1995, when the enterprises manufactured and supplied basic equipment for the HPP “Pamilo” and the HPP “Katerma”.
The General Director of the Power Machines Group Evgeny Yakovlev stresses the importance of these works for the enterprises of the Group. “Next year,-he said,- the government of Finland plans to open the tender for construction of the fifth power generating unit of the atomic power plant. We will certainly take part in it. That is why every project in the countries of Northern Europe is of extreme importance to us”.
The Power Machines Group comprises the following joint-stock companies: Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod, Electrosila Turbine Blades Plant, Kaluga Turbine Works and Energomachexport – Power Machines.
The HPP “Krangede”, which was put into operation in 1936, is situated in the central part of Sweden, within 120 kilometres from a seaside city Sundsvall, in the river Indals-Elven. There are six Francis turbines with the capacity of 44 Mw made my the Swedish company ASEA (currently part of the company “Alstom”).
