MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

April 17, 2001

AO MOSENERGO did everything to protect consumers from possible fallout with Moscow railway

AO MOSENERGO did everything to protect consumers when it restricted electricity supply to MZhD, a Moscow railway company, Vitaly Kuzmin, Deputy General Director of AO MOSENERGO, said today at the briefing on sanctions against MZhD. MZhD is likely to respond to today's reduction of electricity to its 13 power substations by cutting off a number of electrical transmission lines that feed electricity to MOSENERGO substations. This, in turn, could result in the disruption of electricity supply to a number of municipal and industrial customers that do pay their bills. As a preventative step, energy specialists have developed schemes that will promptly restore electricity.

On April 12, in response to the MOSENERGO reduction of electrical supply, MZhD cut off electricity at two substations in the Ruza district and two more in the Odintsovo district. It did so without warning, which violated shutdown regulations and left Ruza and Odintsovo districts without electricity for 10 minutes and 1 hour respectively. Now, specialists at AO MOSENERGO have taken all possible measures to ensure that consumers will not be affected by restraints imposed on MZhD. According to the dispatch service of Mozhaisk Electric Grids, in case MZhD unceremoniously cuts off electric lines that feed a MOSENERGO substation, a back-up line will be automatically activated.
