LUKOIL has provided financial support to the State Tretyakov Gallery to professionally restore the painting “A Fair by the Quay in Archangel” by the famous Russian painter Konstantin Korovin.
The restored painting was unveiled today to the general public as part of preliminary work on the exhibition by Konstantin Korovin, dedicated to the painter’s 150th birthday.
“A Fair by the Quay in Archangel” is one of 10 paintings by the painter that were exhibited in the “Far North” pavilion during the All-Russia Industrial and Art Exhibition held in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896. Later, the painting decorated the walls of the main lobby of the Yaroslavl train station in Moscow. It was then handed over to the State Tretyakov Gallery, where it had remained in storage for more than 40 years.
LUKOIL has maintained a longstanding partnership with the State Tretyakov Gallery. For instance, the company acquired a bas-relief of Mikhail Kozlovsky, a famous Russian painter and sculptor, and recently presented it to the gallery on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. In addition, LUKOIL provided funding for the restoration of the painting “The Portrait of General Vasily Perovsky” by Karl Brullov and the painting “The Sanhedrin Trial: He is Guilty!” by Nikolai Ge. In both 2008 and 2009, the Tretyakov Gallery, in conjunction with LUKOIL, organized joint exhibitions by Russian painters in Finland.
