During a working visit to London, Vice Chairman, Senior Advisor for Regional Development at the World Energy Council (WEC), General Director of Rosseti PJSC, Oleg Budargin, held a meeting with the WEC Secretary General, Christoph Frei.
The leaders shared their opinions on the current state of affairs in the global energy sector, and discussed prospects for the pan-Eurasian integration of national grid complexes and issues of international cooperation.
Oleg Budargin invited Christoph Frei to consider the possibility of the WEC becoming a co-organizer of the traditional Roundtable at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 (SPIEF 2017) with the aim of attracting high-profile speakers from different countries to a discussion devoted to issues of the transborder unification of energy systems - particularly in the Asia-Pacific Region, where plans are in the works for the implementation of a project envisioning a Great Energy Ring with the participation of Russia, Japan, China and South Korea.
According to the Russian side, this should be an important step on the path towards gaining practical benefits from the creation of a single electric-power space through optimization of the generation-consumption balance, as well as a reduction in the costs associated with reserve capacity.
