From the start of this year, specialists of the Regional Insulation, Overvoltage Protection and Test Service of Ulyanovsk DG, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies) carried out infrared imaging photography inspections at 1,551 power facilities, including 79 substations (35-110 kV), 41 overhead transmission lines (35-110 kV) and 1,431 package transformer substations (6-10 kV). This is 45% more than the number of power facilities inspected in 2014. Infrared imaging photography inspections, being non-contact and non-destructive testing procedure, provide one of the most efficient methods of equipment and objects examination, which controls their condition online, without any decommissioning. This allows detecting defects at an early stage and reducing costs. This year specialists, when inspecting overhead transmission lines with the FLIR P-640 IR camera equipped with the state-of-the-art infrared lenses with the highest magnifying power, providing more thorough inspections of equipment, specifically overhead transmission lines. It should be noted that generally specialists need two weeks to carry out the inspection of just a single overhead transmission line. Besides, it is preferably to carry out the inspection at night or when the weather is cloudy, so that direct sunlight could not distort the results of the infrared thermography-based survey procedure. This year, in addition to thermal infrared inspections, specialists for the first time ever carried out the UF inspections of the power facilities using the CoroCAM-504 UF-camera. Specialists of the Regional Insulation, Overvoltage Protection and Test Service of Ulyanovsk DG, together with their peers from IDGC of Volga, PJSC, inspected a number of 110 kV overhead transmission lines, such as Syzran – Novoobraztsovo –Klin and Syzran – Koptevka – Klin, with the total length of over 160 km. These transmission lines are key facilities ensuring reliable power supply for a great number of major industrial consumers of the Ulyanovsk and the Samara region.
