Director of Ulyanovsk DG and Minister of Nature of Ulyanovsk region dicussed protection issues of Red-Book birds

Director of the Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids Branch of Rosseti Volga, PJSC, Sergey Frolov presented to the Minister of Nature and Cyclic Economy Gulnara Rakhmatulina the results of the company's activity on the installation of bird protection devices. Such devices are installed in order to exclude cases of death of birds, including rare specimens from the Red Data Book, at the facilities of the power grid complex.

“Despite the fact that the specifics of the activities of distribution grid companies do not provide for significant environmental impacts that could cause irreparable harm to the ecosystem of the region, Ulyanovsk Grids have always been responsible for their obligations in the field of environmental protection. And the installation of bird protection devices at our facilities has long become an integral part of our environmental program,” said Sergey Frolov. “Since the beginning of the program in 2011, power engineers of Ulyanovsk Grids have installed 103,701 sets of bird protection devices. The program has already been implemented in Radishchevsky, Staro-Kulatkinsky, Novospassky, Sengileevsky, Baryshsky, Melekessky, N. Malyklinsky, Staromainsky, Veshkaimsky, Terengulsky Districts of the Ulyanovsk Region. Another 46 thousand sets will be installed by the end of the year in Mainsky, Sursky, and Kuzovatovsky Regions.

The production program of the Branch for the installation of bird protection devices on 6–10 kV overhead power lines in the Ulyanovsk Region is designed for the period until 2026. The company uses anti-adherent, insulating, and barrier type bird protection devices. All of them make it possible to minimize the risk of electric shock to poultry, and also exclude the occurrence of associated technological disturbances in the networks. In addition, power engineers are routinely replacing the wire with a self-supporting insulated one, covered with a special polymer sheath and excluding the possibility of electric shock to birds. According to the program, 83.5 km of wires were replaced. SSIWs are also used in the design and construction of new power lines, reconstruction of existing lines.

Gulnara Rakhmatulina noted the responsible approach and effective work of the company in the field of environmental protection. The Minister proposed to organize a “round table” within the framework of the thematic weeks of the national project “Ecology” with the participation of other power grid companies operating in the region, representatives of authorities, ecologists and ornithologists.

During the meeting, the participants discussed issues of further interaction and cooperation in the field of the functioning of the power grid complex in the territories included in the list of special exclusion areas, as well as the issues of coordination and performance of work when clearing exclusion zones of overhead lines and building new facilities for technological connection.
