In his speech Alexey Mordashov pointed out priority tasks of a company, beginning to operate in a market economy, including keeping the output and staff, winning the competition in the domestic markets, and taking the right positioning approach of the competitive products in the foreign markets. He further explains the causes and ways of developing a steel mill into a vertically integrated holding company and its further reorganization into a Seversal-group with raw materials, steel-making and automotive divisions.

According to Alexey Mordashov, "In the environment, where there is no model to behave upon, it appeared that common sense, initiative, decisiveness, ability to compromise and some other simple concepts played a major part in Severstal's success story.
