Mordovenergo branch continues to improve its electric power fiscal metering system

In 2014, specialists of Mordovenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies), installed 562 state-of-the-art electricity meters. To that effect, the company allocated 8,915 million rubles. New electricity meters were installed for residential consumers in Kulikovka and Alekseevka settlements located in the Oktyabrsky district of Saransk and the Chamzinsky district respectively. Besides, specialists of Mordovenergo equipped a number of 10/0.4 kV substations with automated systems of technical accounting of electrical power, enabling the staff to promptly and effectively locate and isolate faulty measuring units and to identify and eliminate losses in transmission and distribution grids. As part of the Program for the long-term development of electric power metering systems covering the period till 2031, conventional electricity meters are to be replaced for smart electricity meters that support the time-of-day billing. Therefore, customers are able to control their electricity usage by balancing between higher rates at peak load periods and low tariff rates at off-peak load periods. Besides, the smart meters provide an opportunity to automatically (or remotely, as requested by an operator) cut power supply for selected sites. For example, this feature allows to suspend power supply for consumers who do not pay their electric bills by the due date, without affecting bona fide consumers. Along with installation of intelligent metering and fiscal accounting devices, the branch specialists replace bare non-insulated wires between backbone overhead power transmission line to consumers’ buildings and structures with self-carrying insulated wires (SIP). Such measures further contribute to enhanced reliability of the power system.
