AO MOSENERGO board of directors has already approved the decision to join the non-commercial partnership Administrator of Trading System (ATS). The final decision will be taken soon at future BoD meeting.
ATS was set up in late 2001 to organize trading in electricity for its members in the free market. ATS was founded by 28 companies, which include independent electricity suppliers and consumers, as well as RAO UES subsidiaries.
ATS membership will help AO MOSENERGO to efficiently participate in the creation and development of the competitive electricity market. Currently, ATS prepares documents, which are required to join ATS.
In addition, since last December AO MOSENERGO has taken an active part in ATS simulation trading. This trading aims to perfect the wholesale market model. During the trading market participants, electricity sellers and buyers test trading mechanisms and optimize cooperation. Currently, around 130 Russian companies participate in simulation trading.
In 2003, AO MOSENERGO will regularly analyze the efficiency of buying electricity from other producers based on the company's fuel balance and generation capacity. Last year the company saved approximately 260 mln rubles as a result of buying electricity at the wholesale market (FOREM) instead of producing it at its own facilities which run on fuel oil.
