RUSAL’s Sayansk Plant Meets International Environmental Requirements

13 February 2003

MOSCOW, February 13, 2003 - Russian Aluminium (RUSAL), the world’s second largest aluminium company, today announced that its Sayansk Foil Mill has received the ISO 14001 environmental management certification. The certificate confirms that all stages of the production process at the plant from projection to utilization meet international environmental legislative requirements.

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard for environmental management systems that rates companies by using a systematic approach to identify, prevent and/or minimize any negative impact that an organization’s activities, products or services may have on the  environment. Det Norske Veritas (DNV) of Norway, an independent registrar organization, carried out the assessment.

Sayansk is the first foil mill in Russia and the third RUSAL plant to meet international environmental requirements. The ROSTAR beverage can plant and Sayanogorsk Aluminium Smelter are the two other plants to receive the ISO 14001 environmental certification.

Commenting on this, RUSAL’s Production Director, Valery Matvienko said, “RUSAL’s continued support for the ISO 14001 standard further underlines how seriously the Company takes its responsibility in supporting a healthy environment. RUSAL is on track to become an international leader in streamlining industry standards and practices in environmental compliance.”
