The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Sergey Katanandov, Head of the Republic of Karelia.
The parties discussed the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement and the Gasification Accord in the Republic. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for constructing and bringing onstream four inter-settlement gas pipelines including the pipeline from the Teplichny state-owned farm to the Solomennoye residential district of the Petrozavodsk city, and constructing an inter-settlement gas pipeline from the Berezovskaya gas distribution station in the Kondopoga district. In addition, consideration was given to gasification prospects in southern regions of the Republic.
Background:
The Cooperation Agreement between Gazprom and the Government of the Republic of Karelia was singed in April 2005, the Gasification Accord – in September 2006.
Between 2007 and 2009 Gazprom earmarked in excess of RUB 450 million for the gasification of Karelia in order to bring onstream two and to construct four inter-settlement gas pipelines with the total length of over 90 kilometers. On its part, the Republic allotted RUB 270.6 million for the gasification facilities construction.
Natural gas penetration in Karelia accounts for 2.9 per cent (63.2 per cent throughout Russia).
