Mining Metallurgical Company (MMC) Norilsk Nickel appoints Dr David Humphreys as the group’s Chief Economist. The appointment heralds a strengthening of the senior executive team at an important stage in the company’s development.
Dr. Humphreys will provide advice to the management board and senior management on the outlook for the global metals and mining industry and will assist in the formulation and implementation of strategy for the group. Dr. Humphreys will be based in London.
Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Humphreys said: “Norilsk is a fast-changing and ambitious company with exceptional underlying strengths. This is an exciting opportunity and I look forward to the challenge offered by the appointment.”
Leonid Rozhetskin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board added: “David’s extensive economic knowledge and experience of the mining industry will be important for Norilsk Nickel as we pursue our strategic growth, both organically and through M&A activity.”
Dr. Humphreys is a well-known name in the international mining community. He will draw on his 18 years experience with Rio Tinto, the last eight of these as Chief Economist, to help Norilsk Nickel maximise the value of its unique resource base, and further strengthen the company’s leading positions in the global markets of nickel, palladium, platinum, copper and gold.
