In July 2002, Severstal shipped 298,000 tones of rolled products to foreign markets through its industrial port. This is the highest productivity over the last three years over which it has been shipping metal to export clients by water. The shipment plan for July is met at 104.5 %. The volumes of export shipments by water in July grew by 31,000-38,000 tones as compared with May-June. But the port still has capacity to ship the same high volumes in August. In August, Severstal's Industrial Port is expected to ship over 270,000 tones of metal to export. In accordance with the navigation plans and to assure the continuity of shipments to its key clients in the domestic market Severstal makes regular shipments of steel by water to automotive plants such as UAZ (Uliyanovsk Automotive Plant) and AvtoVAZ. Over this navigation season the shipment to clients in the domestic market amounted to 5,000-6,000 tones a month. Shipments by water from Severstal Industrial Port directly to clients or European ports, bypassing Russian ports, amount to 40,000-50,000 tones a month. The majority of all shipments amounting to 220,000-230,000 tones a month is shipped through St. Petersburg and the remaining part - through Taganrog.
