In 2000 MOSENERGO's Moscow-based Heat and Power Production Plants (HPPs) cut pollution by 24.8 percent. In 1999 the registered level of pollution was 70,000 tons. Last year this figure went down to 53,000 tons.
At none of the power plants did hazardous substance pollution exceed maximum permissible norms.
Last year MOSENERGO in cooperation with the Moscow government undertook a number of environmental activities. The Power Company reconstructed and put into operation several new purification facilities, which helped to substantially reduce pollution generated by Moscow-based HPPs.
"We will continue to undertake efforts to reduce pollution this year," said I.Yeliseyeva, head of MOSENERGO Environmental Bureau.
