MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

August 27, 2002

Heating Grids are completing the preparation for the 2002–2003 winter heating season

As of August 23, Heating Grids of AO MOSENERGO have completed the check, current repairs and the hydraulic testing of all grid pipelines whose length reached 2,345 km. In the course of the work the company eliminated 4,500 pipe breakdowns. In addition, the company has also replaced obsolete equipment at heating mains. Heating Grids company has installed 350 silphone compensators to replace seal compensators. These devices are used to alleviate the expansion or contraction of pipes as a result of the change in the water temperature. As opposed to seal compensators, silphone compensators prevent water leaks and do not require maintenance.

In addition, Heating Grids replaced 50 km of pipeline, which amounts to 72.5% of the planned work. In total, AO MOSENERGO plans to replace 70 km of pipe with expired amortization lives. This work is done in strict compliance with the schedule. By mid-August, the company has laid 3.8 km of pipes insulated with polyurethane foam in areas with high subsoil water content.

In accordance with the plan, Heating Grids of AO MOSENERGO have completed the repair of 21 pump stations. Currently these stations are being tested and adjusted before they are in the operation. In addition, the company is testing new pump stations—Khapilovskaya and Yuzhno-Izmailovskaya. Their construction was completed during the summer. Now these stations have been prepared for operation, which will start at the beginning of the heating season.

The preparation for the upcoming winter load peak was begun in mid-May. According to the head of the production department of Heating Grids Andrei Novikov, in 70% of cases work was done ahead of schedule. By September 10, the power system will be completely ready for the heating season.
