Head of the Minister of Energy of Russian Federation, Alexander Novak, praised the work of Sochi electric grid complex at the Olympic Games

The Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Alexander Novak, talked about this during the meeting of the operational headquarters for Energy at the end of the XXII Olympic Games. The Minister noted that much work had been done at all the sites involved in the Olympics.
“I want to mention the successfully carried out preparations for the Olympics, as well as the coordination of the work of the operating personnel of the Olympic facilities, of the control centers and the entire electric system as a whole that ensured a reliable power supply during the competition,” said Mr. Novak.
The Minister noted that the entire energy complex worked in normal mode; there were no power failures at the Olympic facilities.
According to data obtained in the course of “the regime of the day” in February 2014, the maximum total amount of power consumption was 683 MW. “On average, the power consumption in the period of the Games constituted around 625 MW, which is about 70% of the forecast for an economical option. Power consumption in the mountain and coastal clusters was about 135 MW, which is about 60% of the total declared design capacity of Olympic facilities (240 MW),” said the minister.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) highly assessed Sochi Olympic Games level of organization. The head of IOC, Thomas Bach, called Sochi Olympics gorgeous, noting that Russia has fulfilled all its promises in preparation for the Olympics.
In particular, they positively noted the work of engineers.
Objects of the Olympic energy infrastructure are ready for the XI Paralympic Games.

While preparing for Sochi Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2014, Russian Grids did not just built new facilities for the supply of sports infrastructure, but actually made the reconstruction and modernization of Sochi’s entire electrical grid. These are 68 different power facilities, including 220 and 110 kV substations. More than 450 km of new tapped lines were laid. During the reconstruction of the urban distribution network, more than 900 km of new lines were laid and more than 500 new transformer and distribution points were installed.
In Sochi power region at the Games, there were brought additional assets of Russian Grids subsidiaries – 1,562 of the most qualified specialists as well as 192 units of equipment. Generally speaking, the service involved 3,545 Sochi power professionals and 561 units.
