Bashneft has successfully completed a project to create an integrated corporate management system in the sphere of health, safety and the environment (HSE) and ensure its conformity with internationally accepted standards. The British Standards Institution (BSI) has issued Bashneft with certificates confirming conformity of its HSE Management System with the OHSAS 18001 standard and conformity of the Environmental Management System with the ISO 14001 standard.
‘Certification in accordance with international standards provides new evidence confirming that the Company has succeeded in implementing its strategy in the sphere of health, safety and the environment,’ commented Bashneft President Alexander Korsik. ‘The strategy is aimed at preventing accidents and emergencies, protecting the environment by introducing state-of-the-art technologies, upgrading equipment, manufacturing high-quality products, reducing waste and harmful emissions and ensuring occupational safety.’
The scope of certification included all of the Group’s key enterprises: JSOC Bashneft, its Branches (Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim, Bashneft-UNPZ, Bashneft-Novoil, Bashneft-Bashkirnefteprodukt and Bashneft-Orenburgnefteprodukt), LLC Bashneft-Dobycha, LLC Bashneft-Udmurtia and LLC SKON Group of Companies.
A modern integrated management system in the sphere of health, safety and the environment (HSE) created by the Company in 2013 covers all key business processes. Bashneft has developed and introduced corporate HSE standards and the HSE Policy, provided employees with additional training, formed an institute of internal auditors, developed corporate and standardized risk registers and operational hazard maps, and monitors key indicators.
The ISO 14001 standard is designed to assist organizations in creating an environmental management system in balance with economic needs. Conformity with the Standard enables a more informed use of natural resources and effective management of waste inevitably produced in the course of operations.
The OHSAS 18001 standard (Occupational health and safety management systems) is designed to help organizations manage health and safety risks. Its key elements include identifying, assessing and controlling risk factors, complying with regulations and continuously improving occupational safety.
