In the 2002 rating made by The Financial Times Severstal moved to the 21 first position. This is a substantial jump in the rating as compared with 2001 due to increased market capitalization and working capital. At the time of the rating Severstal’s capitalization has gone up to US $ 1,456.90 million mainly due to a growth in stock prices. Company’s working capital was US $ 1,878.89 million.
Severstal is the only ferrous steel producer which made it into the list of the top 100 largest Eastern European Companies. Norilsk Nickel is the only Russian nonferrous metallurgical company which was also included in the rating.
