On 28th July 2008 a meeting of Governor of Leningrad Oblast Valery Pavlovich Serdyukov with General Manager of OJSC North-West Telecom Vladimir Alexandrovich Akulich took place. The meeting was also attended by Regional Director – Director of the Leningrad Oblast branch Vitaly Yevgenyevich Strizhkov.
In the course of the meeting the parties discussed the results of fulfilling the Agreement of Cooperation between the Government of Leningrad Oblast and OJSC North-West Telecom signed on 29th November 2004, and considered the prospects of telecommunications development in the region for the year 2008. The parties have noted that all obligations stipulated by the Agreement are being fulfilled in full, and interaction in the framework of the Agreement has made it possible to continue the work aimed at solving the tasks of providing telephone communication and Internet services in the districts of Leningrad Oblast.
In 2007 alone, OJSC N.W. Telecom invested 979.7 million roubles in the communication infrastructure of Leningrad Oblast, and for the 4 years from the moment of affiliation of OJSC Lensvyaz with OJSC N.W. Telecom from 2005 till 2008 the investment amounted to 3.4 billion roubles. An investment of almost 1.7 billion roubles has been planned in the current year.
As of the end of the 1st six months of 2008, the installed capacity of OJSC N.W.Telecom's telephone network in Leningrad Oblast reached 468,000 numbers and that of the broadband access equipment, 25,800 őDSL ports. Digitization of the telephone network of the Leningrad Oblast branch of OJSC N.W.Telecom reached 48.4%.
Much attention was paid during the meeting to socially significant and state-run program s that OJSC N.W. Telecom has implemented in the recent years in Leningrad Oblast. In 2007 OJSC N.W. Telecom completed its obligations undertaken under the Education priority national project – 429 schools of Leningrad Oblast were provided with broadband access to the Internet using the ADSL technology. In the course of implementing the all-in-one services of telephone communication using payphone s, OJSC N.W. Telecom installed 2835 universal servicing payphone s in the region.
In conclusion, the General Manager of OJSC N.W.Telecom thanked the Government of Leningrad Oblast for the fruitful interaction within the framework of the Agreement that makes it possible to tackle the issues of information technologies and telecommunications development in the region successful ly and noted that North-West Telecom will not stunt and will continue to implement new telecommunication technologies , providing modern quality communication services to the residents and enterprise s of Leningrad Oblast.
