Rostelecom has launched new digital line between Skovorodino, Aldan and Yakutsk

Rostelecom, Russia’s national long-distance telecommunications operator, has launched a new high-speed digital line between Skovorodino, Aldan and Yakutsk.

The new line was introduced due to the growing demand for telecom services from both residential customers and businesses of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

The line, stretching 1035 kilometers from Skovorodino (the Amur region) to Yakutsk through the towns of Tynda and Aldan, was constructed using SDH digital equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers.

Dmitry Yerokhin, Rostelecom’s General Director, commented: “Rostelecom has a technologically advanced nationwide backbone network and we are constantly investing in its further development. The new line of high capacity from Skovorodino to Yakutsk will enable the Company to increase the number of channels, while improving the quality of domestic and international long-distance services along with expanding the range of services provided to residential and corporate customers in Yakutia.”

The Minister of transport, communications and informatization of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Vladimir Chlenov said: “We highly appreciate that thanks to the launch of a new line Yakutia will be provided with a wide range of modern telecom services to raise its industries and businesses’ competitive level. In addition, it will give renewed impetus to the social and economic development of the Republic: the introduction of a digital line creates opportunities for the development of telemedicine, distance learning and IP television, let alone the increased Internet access speed.”

“While constructing a number of the line sections, we suspended a fiber optic cable embedded into OPGW (overhead power ground wire) on power transmission lines,” Dmitry Gurevich, Deputy General Director – Project Management Director of Rostelecom, said. “It became possible due to collaboration with the OJSC FNC UES and regional energy companies and speeded up implementation of the project. In addition, this new network segment will be a part of a backup route from Chelyabinsk to Khabarovsk.”
