RAO UES: Reftinskaya power plant will restore its unit 10 and increase capacity in Q1 2007

Reftinsky, Sverdlovsk Region. 26 December 2006. Unit 10 of the Reftinskaya TPP will be restored and the plant's capacity to be increased in Q 1 2007. Such decision was taken by the Task Force during the meeting held on the power plant's premises. The meeting was chaired by Anatoly Chubais, RAO UES Management Board Chairman.

Currently, power units 9 and 10 of the Reftinskaya TPP are stopped, which was done in order to isolate the fire. The fire at unit 10 started on the night of December 19 to December 20. The fire was put out very quickly, but it damaged the turbine generator, electric cables, some auxiliary equipment and part of the roof above units 9 and 10. It took the plant's repair teams than less 24 hours to put unit 7 back into operation.

The Task Force gave a positive assessment of the steps taken by the plant's duty staff during the first hours after the fire started, which helped minimize its consequences and prevent damage to the other power units.

Besides, the Task Force noted the organizational and technical support provided to the Reftinskaya TPP by the Sverdlovsk Region Government.

Now, works are underway at the Reftinskaya TPP to remove the debris of the damaged roof and construct partitions between unit 10 and the operational units. After that experts will give their judgment about the timing for the completion of the restoration at unit 9. When the fire began, the unit's equipment was undergoing repairs, which was scheduled to be finished on 10 January 2007, but due to the damage to the auxiliary equipment and roof above unit 9, the completion of the repairs has been postponed.

The Reftinskaya TPP has six 300 MW units and four 500 MW units. In order to make up for lost capacity of the units stopped during the fire, during the first hours of the fire at unit 10, the Urals Energy System used its reserves, which helped prevent disruptions in electricity and heat supply to consumers in the Sverdlovsk Region. Electricity and heat is supplied to all the customers in the usual mode.

RAO UES Task Force was created to address the consequences of the fire. The Task Force is headed by Boris Vainzikher, Technical Director of RAO "UES of Russia", and includes engineering staff of the Reftinskaya TPP, OAO "WGC-5", RAO "UES of Russia", and Sverdlovsk Government officials.
