The Gazprom Headquarters today has hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Augusto Parra Munoz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chile.

The parties addressed the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the gas sector, paying particular attention to Gazprom’s potential involvement in the Chilean gas infrastructure development.

The meeting resulted in an agreement between the parties on further measures to promote joint businesses in the fuel and energy sector.

Reference:

Chile’s proven natural gas reserves account for 90 billion cm. Over 2005 the country extracted and consumed 2.1 and 8.6 billion cm of natural gas, respectively. The bulk of the gas was imported from Argentina and Brazil (7 gas pipelines with the total length of 3.2 thousand km had been constructed for these purposes in the late 1990s).

The share of natural gas in Chile’s primary energy mix makes up some 30 per cent, with about 90 per cent of this amount used to generate electricity and supply industrial customers.

In 2005 Chile’s oil reserves, recovery and consumption stood at 20 million t, 310 thousand t and 9.6 million t, respectively. The lacking oil volumes are imported from Argentina, Brazil, Nigeria, Peru, Venezuela and Malaysia.

Founded in 1950, Empresa Nacional del Petroleo (ENAP) is currently the monopolist in the Chilean oil & gas market.
