The Rosseti Volga Company (brand of IDGC of Volga, PJSC) summed up the results of activities for reducing electricity losses in grids in 2019. The economic effect amounted to 128.36 million kWh. Such indicators are the result of focused systematic work of the Volga power energy specialists. The most significant result is the successful implementation of activities within the program for the prospective development of electric energy metering systems. In 2019, more than 28 thousand new metering devices were installed. Intelligent meters are mounted outside the consumer’s territory. At the same time, communication channel routers are installed at power centers, which allow remote receipt of power consumption data from devices.
The modern energy metering system significantly simplifies the process of collecting data and controlling total consumption from a unified power center. It is important that the system itself transmits the readings of metering devices to the energy company. The introduction of smart meters eliminates the possibility of off-the-meter consumption of electric energy, unauthorized access to metering circuits, “twisting-out” of readings. An important role in reducing losses is also played by the identification and suppression of non-contracted and off-the-meter electricity consumption. So, in 2019, the Volga power energy specialists checked almost 1.7 million electric energy meters, revealing 27.9 million stolen kWh.
In all cases of unfair consumption, acts were drawn up, and violators paid for the consumed electricity calculated according to the standards and penalties. In 2019, the highest efficiency in using comprehensive measures to combat losses in distribution grids was demonstrated by the branches of Saratov Grids (during the year, the losses decreased by 56.30 million kWh), Samara Grids – by 61.62 million kWh, Ulyanovsk Grids – by 63.16 million kWh. Over the past 5 years, the losses throughout the Company as a whole have decreased from 3.5 billion kWh of electricity to 3.2 billion kWh.
