Russian Grids and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia discussed the establishment of the WEC Armenian National Committee

May 14, 2014, Yerevan – Oleg Budargin, General Director of JSC Russian Grids and Vice Chairman – Senior Advisor for Regional Development, World Energy Council (WEC), discussed the establishment of the WEC Armenian National Committee within the creation of the WEC Eurasian Committee.

During his working visit to Armenia, the General Director of Russian Grids met Ervand Zakharyan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia, and his deputy Areg Galstayn.

During the meeting, the parties discussed WEC’s activities and also agreed to set up the Armenian National Committee to promote and strengthen professional business ties and contacts between energy sector executives and experts from all countries. Moreover, the committee will become a forum to share experience in the field of new technology and new technical solutions.

The creation of the WEC Eurasian Committee will enable multilateral decision-taking to address geopolitical, technical, economic, environmental and other challenges in the field of fuel and energy.

Previously, the 45th meeting of the CIS Electric Energy Council held on April 25, 2014 in Baku recommended that the meeting participants consider setting up WEC National Committees in the countries of the Eurasian region. So far, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Moldova, and the Kyrgyz Republic have expressed their interest in having a national committee.
