Rosseti, Sberbank and the Government of the Saratov Region sign a memorandum on regional data centre construction

The document was signed by Pavel Livinskiy, Director General, PJSC Rosseti, German Gref, President of Sberbank, Valeriy Radaev, Governor of the Saratov Region, Roman Busargin, Head of the Regional Government. The ceremony was attended by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The Parties agreed to cooperate within the framework of Sberbank's Data Processing Centre (DPC) development in the Balakovo municipal district as part of the special economic zone.

The project is supposed to be implemented in three stages, the last to be fully completed in 2027. It is planned to create up to 100 new jobs. The total construction area will be about 59.3 thousand square meters. The DPC will be tooled up with at least 3 thousand racks with computing equipment (about 120 thousand servers).

Rosseti will provide the 2 MW site for construction works as early as 2021. In the future, the capacity will be increased in parallel with the equipment room construction - up to 26 MW in 2022, 54 MW in 2024 and 82 MW in 2026.

“Sber's Data Processing Centre to be built in the Saratov Region is a state-of-the-art, technologically advanced and energy-intensive project capable of showing the shift in the energy consumption structure and increase in our Customers' requirements for quality and reliability of electric energy transmission. The DPC's power supply will be provided by two interchangeable independent sources, ensuring steady operation in almost any situation. We expect a dynamic growth in this sector and are ready for an increased demand in technical connection of Data Centres in the years to come”, emphasized Pavel Livinskiy.

“Today, the creation of the Special economic zone allowed for the region to embrace new opportunities. They simplify project and investment activities greatly. The SEZ preferences are multiplied by our resource advantages, one of which is excess energy capacity enabled by Balakovo NPP. Thus, all conditions are provided for high-tech Data Processing Centre development which is to become a part of Sberbank's large-scale nationwide project. I would like to thank Vyacheslav Volodin for his assistance in expanding the region's partnership with Sberbank and Rosseti, German Gref and Pavel Livinskiy - for showing trust and selecting the Saratov region for the implementation of such ambitious investment project”, said Valeriy Radaev.

“One of Sber's priorities is assistance in the regions' innovative development, and this project is a good example of synergy between the efforts of business and government authorities. The PDC will help us improve our Customer service quality, as well as create new jobs. I am grateful to the Regional Government and PJSC Rosseti for their support and comfortable conditions for erecting a high-tech, complex facility which is of high significance for us”, said German Gref.
