Members of the International Advisory Council (IAC) of SISTEMA JSFC held their first meeting in Moscow that took place on May 16 to May 18. Representatives of the Russian and international business communities, scientific and public figures were invited to participate in this event.

Those present at the meeting discussed the structure and various aspects of the Council’s activity. Among them were: president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Volsky, executive director of Deutsche Telekom from 1995 to 2002 Ron Sommer, chairman of the Russian Central Bank from 1992 to 1994 and from 1998 to 2002 Vladimir Geraschenko, chairman of SUN Group Nand Khemka, head of RWE AG from 1995 to 2003 Dietmar Kuhnt as well as leaders of SISTEMA JSFC. As of today, director-general of UNESCO from 1987 to 1999 Federico Mayor, chairman and president of the Coca-Cola Co. Douglas N. Daft, president of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Evgeny Primakov and vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Zhores Alferov also agreed to join the Council.

As chairman of the board of directors of SISTEMA JSFC Vladimir Evtushenkov said, by forming the International Advisory Council, the board of directors of SISTEMA JSFC hopes that its recommendations will be of great value for perfecting the corporate management and determining strategic priorities of the corporation’s development. Geographic borders are becoming more open to businesses and any large Russian company, which is seriously thinking about its future, wants to be sure of adequately assessing the world business environment when making strategic decisions.

Ron Sommer, who became the IAC head, pointed out that he considered it a big honor to get Evtushenkov’s offer to be the Council’s chairman, especially so by taking into account the positive experience of interacting with SISTEMA JSFC and high appreciation of the corporation’s business results. In the opinion of Ron Sommer, by consolidating ideas of people with diverse working experience from Russia and other countries, the Council might become a valuable instrument for analyzing and working out independent assessments of the corporation’s activity. He also said: “I think that Russia has all necessary resources, including the human potential, which will allow the country to successfully transform and develop its economy in the nearest future”.

The next meeting of the Council is planned to take place at the end of the current year.
