April 7, 2003

Power Machines Group and JSC Power Generation Enterprise of Serbia signed a Contract for Djerdap HPP

On March 29, 2003 in Beograd JSC Power Generation Enterprise of Serbia and Russian  company Power Machines Group signed a Contract for renovation of Djerdap HPP in Serbia. The price of the contract exceeds 100 million US$.

In accordance with the terms of the Contract Power Machines Group shall carry out reconstruction of Djerdap HPP to increase the capacity of the existing six power units from 174 to 201 MW. The term of execution of the Project makes 85 months. The Project will be financed on account of the debt of the former USSR to the former UFRY.

Manufacturing of new assemblies, repairs and modernization of the equipment which is the most responsible part of the Project will not be held on the Site of the Plant but at Russian plants manufacturing turbines and generators – Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and Elektrosila – in cooperation with specialized enterprises and firms of Serbia that will carry out up to 20% of the works in the Project.

Every year beginning with July 2004 and ending 2010 there will be renovated one out of six hydro power units of Djerdap HPP – one unit per calendar year. As a result the capacity of each unit will be increased by more than 10% and a new technical resource of the Plant will be extended for another 30 years of operation, an annual power output will be increased up to 500 million kW per hour.

Preparation works will begin in April 2003 and will last till July 2004 with  dismantling of the first unit of the Plant.

In 1970-1972 the units for Djerdap HPP were manufactured at Russian plants – Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod and Electrosila – which now belong to Power Machines Group. Years of faultless service of the units provided for trust to products of Power Machines Group and lead to great interest from the part of Serbian Customer to have the Plant reconstructed by the original manufacturer of the equipment.

According to Mr. Slobodan Rudjich, Chief Minister of Power Engineering of Serbia, “renovation of Djerdap-1 HOO is the most important investment project in the field of power generation. Execution of the planned works will help to extend life time of the biggest HPP in our country for another 30 years”.

Power Machines Group Comprises JSC Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod, JSC Elektrosila, JSC Kaluga Turbine Blades Plant and a trading company Energomachexport.

In all JSC Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod manufactured and delivered for this former Yugoslavian power plant 14 hydraulic turbines with the total capacity of more than 1200 MW and 10 steam turbines with the total capacity of more than 2000 MW.
