On working meeting between Alexey Miller and Hossein Noghrehkar Shirazi

Today the Gazprom Headquarters has hosted a working meeting between Alexey Mller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Hossein Noghrehkar Shirazi, Deputy Minister for Oil of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The parties discussed issues related to cooperation between Gazprom and Iranian companies in the oil and gas industry. The parties named priority directions including exploration and development of oil and gas fields, particularly, joint implementation of regular stages for the South Pars field project development and operation. Additionally, the parties examined the prospects of cooperation in the sector of gas transportation, processing, utilization and marketing.

The participants confirmed their interest in further development of long-term cooperation between Gazprom and Iran in the energy sector.

Iran’s proved natural gas reserves average 28 tcm. In 2006 natural gas production in Iran accounted for 105 bcm, consumption – 105.1 bcm.

The country’s energy balance is as follows: natural gas – 53 per cent, oil – 44 per cent, hydropower – two per cent and coal – one per cent.

Since 1997 Gazprom has been involved in phases two and three predevelopment within the South Pars field project.

The project is being implemented by the consortium composed of Total (40 per cent), Petronas (30 per cent), Gazprom (30 per cent). The consortium has finalized the entire scope of work embracing the construction of 20 bcm/y natural gas production and processing start up facilities.
