Gazprom initiates gas and condensate production from Valanginian deposits of Zapolyarnoye field

Gazprom commissioned infrastructure facilities to produce gas and gas condensate from the Valanginian deposits of the Zapolyarnoye oil, gas and condensate field.

The facilities comprise a comprehensive gas and gas condensate treatment unit (CGTU-2C) and 61 wells. It is projected to annually produce 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas and 1.3 million tons of gas condensate from the field by 2012.

“Gazprom takes consistent efforts to put new gas production facilities into operation. In the last quarter of 2010 we started to produce gas in the Yareyskaya area of the Yamsoveyskoye field and in the Zapadno-Pestsovaya area of the Urengoyskoye field. Early April was marked by the injection of the first Valanginian gas from the Zapolyarnoye field into the Unified Gas Supply System.

In general, during the recent six months we have commissioned new gas production facilities with the aggregate projected capacity reaching nearly 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year which is comparable, for instance, with the annual volume of gas sold by Gazprom to France – one of the largest importers of Russian gas,” said Alexander Ananenkov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.

Background

The Zapolyarnoye oil, gas and condensate field is located in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YaNAO). The field is considered one of the largest in Russia, as its reserves account for 3 trillion cubic meters of gas.

The field is being developed by Gazprom dobycha Yamburg (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom). In 2004 the Cenomanian deposits of the Zapolyarnoye field were brought to projected capacity – 100 billion cubic meters a year.

At present, the work is underway in the Zapolyarnoye field to further increase the production potential – additional wells are being drilled to bring the annual gas production up to 115 billion cubic meters.

The Valanginian deposits are being simultaneously pre-developed. It is planned to build up gas and gas condensate production from these deposits to 15 billion cubic meters and 3 million tons respectively. In order to achieve this goal it is planned to drill additional wells and build another comprehensive gas and gas condensate treatment unit.

Thus, the aggregate production in the Zapolyarnoye field is to reach 130 billion cubic meters of gas and 3 million tons of gas condensate a year.

In October 2010 Gazprom conveyed first gas from the Yareyskaya area of the Yamsoveyskoye oil, gas and condensate field located in YaNAO. The field is being developed by Gazprom dobycha Nadym (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom). The projected capacity of the Yareyskaya area is some 1.25 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

In October 2010 Gazprom also put into operation the Zapadno-Pestsovaya area of the Urengoyskoye oil, gas and condensate field located in YaNAO. The field is being developed by Gazprom dobycha Urengoy (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom). The projected capacity of the Zapadno-Pestsovaya area is 2 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

Between 2001 and 2010 Gazprom commissioned new production facilities with the aggregate projected capacity of more than 224 billion cubic meters of gas a year:

  • Aneryakhinskaya area of the Yamburgskoye field – 10 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Vyngaiakhinskoye field – 5 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Yen-Yakhiskoye field – 5 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Yety-Purovskoye field – 15 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Zapolyarnoye field – 100 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Pestsovaya area of the Urengoyskoye field – 27.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Tab-Yakhinskaya area of the Urengoyskoye field – 5 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Kharvutinskaya area of the Yamburgskoye field – 25 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Yuzhno-Russkoye field – 25 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • second block of the Achimov deposits in the Urengoyskoye field – 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Zapadno-Pestsovaya area of the Urengoyskoye field – 2 billion cubic meters of gas a year;
  • Yareyskaya area of the Yamsoveyskoye field – 1.25 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

The hydrocarbon-bearing Cenomanian deposits lie at depths of 1,100 to 1,700 meters, Valanginian (Neocomian) deposits- 1,700 to 3,200 meters, Achimov deposits – nearly 4,000 meters.
