On 27-28 May 2003 "Electrosvyaz" Stavropol Territory" - branch of "UTK" PJSC tested the equipment supporting the newest service of multi-service network - transmission of TV signal of broadcasting quality among the cities of the Stavropol Territory. Representatives of the interested party - Stavropol state TV and radio broadcasting company - were invited.

To convert low-frequency analog TV signal from the camera-recorder into digital one and to transmit it through the multi-service network the equipment manufactured by the US company "Minerva Networks" and given for testing by "UTK" PJSC partner "TechnoServ A/S" company was used. Codec VPN-201 is a universal device for converting one analog video signal and one digital SDI signal as well as two audio channels for each video signal (analog and digital respectively) into form suitable for transmission via PSDN (packet switched data network).

The following tests were carried out using the video equipment given by Stavropol state TV and radio broadcasting company: low-frequency analog TV signal from the camera-recorder was converted into digital one and transmitted through the multi-service network to Pyatigorsk, from where it was forwarded back to Stavropol without decoding and there it was reconverted and displayed in the studio monitor.

Specialists of the Stavropol state TV and radio broadcasting company took different measurements of analog video and audio signals at the output of VNP-201. They noted the high quality of video signal transmission satisfying all the GOST requirements. No distortions of audio channel were detected when using digital input.

Thus, the conducted tests showed the new ways of television and radio development on the basis of modern technologies. Multi-service network provides simple and comparatively cheap transportation channels for high-quality transmission of audio and video signals instead of the existing morally and physically obsolete radio-relay communication lines requiring heavy maintenance and modernization costs.
