Rostelecom's delegation participated in the annual Global Telecommunications Meeting (GTM), which took place in Washington DC (USA) on May 8-11, 2006.

It is the third time running Rostelecom has been one of the sponsors of this premier telecommunications event organized by the satellite communications company Intelsat.

This year Rostelecom's delegation, headed by Olga Rumyantseva - Commercial Director of the Company, held over hundred of meetings with other carriers – the Company's international partners. The focus of the discussion was given to the following subjects: development and provision of new services, international traffic transit, optimization of channel routing, launching new services to the market, carriers' strategic policy under the  market liberalization, specific features of service provision to corporate clients and individual users, etc. One of the top topics was the discussion of cooperation terms under Rostelecom’s Europe-Asia Transit project.

“The interest shown to our Company at the Meeting indicates that Rostelecom is still the main strategic partner for international carriers. The Company’s competitive advantages – the availability of its own backbone, existence of border crossings and high-speed channels to Europe as well as its presence in the largest international traffic exchange centers give us strong positions”, said Olga Rumyantseva, Rostelecom’s Commercial Director. “I would like to particularly highlight the considerably increased demand for the TEA (Europe-Asia Transit) project displayed by the participants to the discussions.”

In 2006 the GTM telecom operators forum hosted 2,500 attendees from over 800 telecommunications companies representing 160 countries of the world.  GTM featured both enhanced themed conference sessions and an exhibition.
