The beginning of infra-red astronomy

On July 10, 2003 LOMO PLC dispatched to customer device AZT-33IK - the first specialized infra-red telescope in Russia, made in LOMO.

Siberian department of the Russian Academy of Science was the customer of this complicated device. St. Petersburg optical firm worked under this device for several years.  The whole range of original construction decisions was applied during its designing.

The diameter of the main mirror of AZT-33IK is 1,5 meter. Telescope is intended for discovering and accompaniment of objects in the space and trajectory observation of them. The device allows to discover even poorly distinguishing objects on the background of starry sky and to define their origin. In particular, telescope allows to discover so called "space rubbish", becoming a serious problem last years. There are only several analogues of this system in the world.

AZT-33IK is planned to deliver to customer on July. So it has already become the third professional telescope, produced by the St. Petersburg optical firm during the last year. LOMO hopes that the list will be continued in the nearest future.
