AO MOSENERGO's CHP-22 completed the overhaul of the power unit

AO MOSENERGO has carried out maintenance on power unit no. 11 since mid-April. The repairs were part of AO MOSENERGO's preparations for the winter season. Within 3.5 months, company specialists had to overhaul and upgrade the power unit, which had been used at the plant for 30 years.

In the process of overhaul, AO MOSENERGO specialists carried out a comprehensive check of the unit to evaluate its operational capabilities. The Company has installed at the boiler automation equipment and software, which makes it possible to increase the effectiveness and regulate the operation parameters of the unit. The boiler can now be operated by computer, making operation much simpler. In addition, the Company has replaced the convective coating of the boiler weighing 360 tons.

Much work has been done to upgrade the turbine automated regulation system. The old hydraulic equipment has been replaced with the modern chip-based electric and mechanical equipment. The new system will automatically respond to electric current fluctuation and accordingly adjust the turbine generator operation.

All works on power unit no. 11 were completed in strict accordance with the schedule – on July 30. After start-up adjustments, the unit was put into operation on August 3. At present, AO MOSENERGO conducts comprehensive checks of the unit equipment.

To prepare for next winter, CHP-22 will have to carry out maintenance on turbine unit No. 8. The company will replace worn-out turbine and generator, as well as all auxiliary equipment with modern equipment. For example, a new asynchronous generator will be installed at the plant. This device will be used to regulate reactive capacity in electric lines.

As a result of the upgrade, the installed capacity of the turbine will increase by 10% from 100 MWt to 110 MWt and the average fuel consumption will go down by 5%. The saving of fuel will have a positive effect on the environment. In general, the turbine upgrade will increase the reliability of the power plant and help to increase power production.

The turbine upgrade was launched in April 2003, and will end in mid-December. AO MOSENERGO has allocated for this purposes $30 million.
