As of April 15, 2003, there were 538,000 tons of fuel oil and more than 731,000 tons of coal stocked at AO MOSENERGO power stations in Moscow and the Moscow region. The fuel reserves are regularly replenished.
During January–March and the first half of April, AO MOSENERGO's fuel consumption increased considerably as compared to the same period in 2002. This primarily resulted from lower air temperatures this year leading to higher heating consumption, which exceeded both last year’s figures and expectations. Last year AO MOSENERGO unloaded its capacities in accordance with Central Dispatch instructions and RAO UES technical requirements. In 2003, AO MOSENERGO branches worked in the usual mode and therefore increased power generation.
Despite a considerable increase in power consumption this year, AO MOSENERGO has properly stocked up on fuel reserves, which enable the company to ensure reliable heating until the end of the heating season. The Moscow government is scheduled to turn off heating in some Moscow districts in early May. The heat will be turned off if the average air temperature after April 20 does reach lower than +10°?.
