The model testing of new vessels for Primorsk Shipping Corporation have successfully finished. They were held in Hamburg marine institute in the ice pool of which they created real conditions of shipping in ice of 70 cm. The experiments were held on the models by which Primorsk Shipping Corporation will order three Aframax tankers to shipbuilding yard Hyundai Heavy Industries corporation in Ulsan. For the first time in the world practice the ice class 1 A, according to Swedish – Finnish classification, will be applied to such large-capacity vessels. The vessels are supposed to be used in all-year-round transportation of Sakhalin oil that is why the advanced requirements of safe navigation will be applied to them. They will have to work in difficult navigation and ice conditions of Sakhalin. Double hull and additional equipment - bow loading system and monitoring and hull pressure control system – provide their safe trading. Nikolay M. Arkhipkin, Technical Department Director, informed that two-week testing had successfully finished. The shipbuilding yard will start working out the technical documentation and then metal cutting and keel laying. The three new thousand - ton tankers are supposed to be delivered to PRISCO by the end of the year 2005 or the beginning of the year 2006.
