On 27th-30th August 2006 the Republic of Komi was visited by a delegation of OJSC North-West Telecom (OJSC N.W.Telecom) headed by the General Manager V.A.Akulich. The visit took place in connection with the 85th anniversary of the Republic of Komi, and the main events of the visit became North-West Telecom's presents for the celebration: new clients service centers were opened in Ukhta and Izhma, a digital cable communication line was put into operation on the Synya-Usinsk direction.

On 28thAugust the delegation of OJSC N.W.Telecom , jointly with Head of the Ukhta Administration A.A. Kargalina and managers of the biggest enterprise s of the city took part in opening the up-to-date Clients Service Center having state-of-the-art equipment.

On 30th August managers of OJSC N.W.Telecom visited the Usinsky district of the Republic where a video conference Usinsk – Syktyvkar dedicated to the commissioning of the Synya-Usinsk digital cable 116 km in total length was held. The construction of the line will provide the required number of channels outside the Usinsky district and will make it possible to improve considerably the quality of telecommunication s services, including up-to-date data transmission services.   V.A. Torlopov, Head of the Republic of Komi, addressed the participant s of the video conference from Syktyvkar and noted that an "information pipe" – similarly to the "oil pipe" - has been connected to Usinsk, the oil capital of Komi. This is a fibre-optic communication line, which will connect the district with the main digital route of the Republic. Head of the Usinsky district F.O. Markov, managers of the major enterprise s of Usinsk and representatives of mass media also took part in the video conference.

On the same day, 30th August, the delegation of OJSC N.W.Telecom attended the opening of a new technical building and the Clients Service Center in the village of Izhma. The residents of Izhma got a gift from the workers of the communication industry – a new modern building , which became an adornment of the village. The opening ceremony became a real holiday – a mass people's festival, traditional among northern peoples of the Republic of Komi.

In the course of the festivities and business meetings with the leaders of the region General Manager of OJSC NWT Vladimir Akulich noted more than once that North-West Telecom considers the Republic of Komi as one of the most attractive and promising regions for the development of modern telecommunications. "Today we are spending a lot of funds for the construction of digital communication lines in the Republic , which will both create a basis for the provision of traditional communication services of high quality and ensure a further introduction   of up-to-date services and technologies".
