Companies of the Sistema Telecom Group attend the ITU Telecom World 2003 exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 12 to 18, 2003

OAO Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS), ZAO Comstar, and ZAO Moscow Cellular Communications (MSS) have participated in the world exhibition, ITU Telecom World 2003, ranked as the most representative event in the field of telecommunications, which opened in Geneva on October 12. The three companies had their stands in the territory of the Russian National Pavilion. MGTS displayed its public data transfer network and IP telephony services in the context of the Electronic Russia federal target program and its new products, telephone cards and speed data encryption methods, developed by the company and tailored to Russian realities. Comstar demonstrates the possibilities of a multiple-service NGN (Net Generation Network), in particular, IP VPN (Virtual Private Net) organization. In addition, Comstar’s professionals translate events occurring on the Russian collective stand regularly to the company’s specialized corporate site page. MSS shared a stand with the Delta Telecom Company, St. Petersburg, under the common Sky Link trademark. This trademark has been an identifier of services provided under the IMT-MC-450 standard in St. Petersburg beginning in December 2002, and MSS will launch them in Moscow this coming November. Vladimir Lagutin, General Director of the Sistema Telecom management company, who came to take a look at the stands displayed by the three Russian entrants in the Russian National Pavilion on October 13, had these comments, “Participation of the Sistema Telecom Group’s companies in a prestigious event like this ITU Telecom World exhibition, is an important and responsible job, to do which enormous preparatory efforts had been put in. The companies’ stands have been set up within the framework of the joint exposition in the Russian pavilion. This allows the companies, on the one hand, to maximize their gains from participation and, on the other hand, helps improve prospects and support for the Russian telecommunications industry in its desire to keep on developing and is clear evidence of the wherewithal it has for its fulfillment.” ITU Telecom World, initiated and organized by the International Electric Communication Union in 1971 as a worldwide telecommunications exhibition, is held once every four years. The 2003 exhibition, which comes ninth in succession, drew upward of 3,500 companies, including communication operators, major telecommunications companies, and equipment manufacturing companies, to Geneva. The exhibition will close on October 18. Sistema Telecom is a company that manages telecommunications assets for Sistema JSFC. It comprises some of Russia’s leading telecommunications operators, including MTS, MGTS, MTU-Inform, Comstar, and Telmos, among others, providing mobile and fixed telephone, paging and satellite communication and Internet access services, and services based on the global positioning system and broadband communications.
