A new air separation unit worth RUB 4.2 billion has been built at the station of oxygen plant No.5 at Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK).
The unit is capable of producing 35,000 cubic meters of industrial oxygen and 30,000 cubic meters of pure nitrogen, as well as about 1,000 cubic meters of argon per hour to meet MMK’s needs.
The need to enhance the air separation capacities arose in connection with the overall development of MMK’s capacities. The unit will not only cover the production needs in the air separation products, but will also directly produce these gases under pressure, without the use of additional oxygen or nitrogen compressors. This will save about 10 megawatts of electricity per hour. In percentage terms, the savings will be 10% compared to existing units.
The unit symbolizes the latest developments in cryogenic engineering. It was produced by the company Cryogenmash.
